Our Story...

We're a family figuring out what it means to build a healthier, simpler, more intentional life.

We've made mistakes. We've changed our minds. We've tried things that worked—and plenty that didn't. We've learned to question the things we've always done, look for better ways, and make changes when something isn't working.

This is where you get to know the family behind Blackthorn & Willow and understand why this little corner of the internet exists.

Real Life Has a Way of Changing the Plan

Life has a way of handing you problems you didn't ask for.

A car accident. A diagnosis that changes everything. A vacation you want to take but can't quite figure out how to afford. A product you trusted that doesn't seem to be doing your family any favors.

None of it is glamorous.

All of it is real.

And that's what Blackthorn & Willow is about.

I'm April, and you'll hear from my husband and daughter along the way. We're not experts sitting on the other side of a screen telling you how to live your life. We're a family living it ourselves—making decisions, trying things, changing course, and figuring things out as we go.

Why We Started Writing It Down

I've been doing this for more than twelve years.

Quietly. One decision at a time.

Cleaning up our home. Rethinking what we bring into it. Changing the way we eat. Finding better products. Looking for ways to save money. Learning how to make the most of what we have.

I didn't start with a master plan.

Life kept presenting problems, and I kept refusing to simply live with them.

When something isn't working, I want to know why. I want to understand our options. I want to find a better way—and then I want to know if that better way actually works in real life.

That's just who I am.

Over the years, the problems got bigger and the lessons got deeper. Some things forced changes we never would have chosen for ourselves. Others were small discoveries that simply made everyday life a little better.

But the pattern stayed the same:

Problem. Research. Adapt. Overcome.

Eventually, I realized we were already doing something worth sharing.

What You'll Find Here

Blackthorn & Willow is where we write down what we're learning.

You'll find the things we're doing in our home, the food we're cooking, the products we're replacing, the ways we're trying to live healthier, the projects we're tackling, the ways we're making and saving money, and the stories behind the choices we're making.

Sometimes we'll share something that worked beautifully.

Sometimes we'll tell you what we tried so you don't have to.

And sometimes we're still figuring it out.

That's okay.

We're not trying to create a picture-perfect life. We're trying to build a good one—a life that is healthier, more intentional, and actually works for our family.

If something we learn along the way helps you solve a problem in your own life, gives you a place to start, saves you some money, or simply makes you feel a little less alone in figuring things out, then sharing it was worth it.

We're just a family trying to make life a little better, one problem and one solution at a time.

Welcome to Blackthorn & Willow.
