Things Worth Spending Money On

I'm a firm believer that sometimes the cheapest option is actually the most expensive one.

There's an old saying: “I'm too broke to buy cheap things.” I couldn't agree more.

That doesn't mean I want the most expensive version of everything. In fact, I don't need a house full of fancy gadgets or the newest version of every product. But when I do spend money, I want to know that what I'm buying is going to solve a problem, make our life easier, or last long enough to be worth the investment.

For us, that often means choosing quality over quantity. A well-made piece of solid wood furniture can be worth spending more on because it can stay in our home for decades. A tool or appliance that genuinely makes something easier can be worth the money because we use it over and over again.

And sometimes the thing worth spending money on isn't the most practical choice at all. Sometimes it's the little thing that makes an ordinary part of life more enjoyable—a purchase that creates a memory, adds character, or simply makes you happy every time you use it.

That's the kind of spending I care about.

Here I'll share the purchases we've made that have earned their place in our home and our life, why we decided they were worth the money, and what we've learned about knowing when to spend and when to save.

Because being careful with money doesn't mean never spending it.

It means spending it on things that are worth having.
